Earlier this month, I reported:
Chicago has a long-storied history of crime going back way before the infamous days of gangsters like Frank ‘The Enforcer’ Nitti, Papa John Torrio, Diamond Joe Esposito, Vinvent ‘The Schemer’ Drucci, Louis ‘Two Gun’ Alterie, Machine Gun McGurn, Big Jim Colosimo, Bugs Moran, Dean O’Banion, Baby Face Nelson, John Dillinger and Al Capone.
Chicago’s current mayor, Rahm Emanuel served as Obama’s White House Chief of Staff before moving back to Chicago to run for mayor. Like his mentor, Emanuel is very anti-gun, anti-Second Amendment. Prior to Emanuel becoming mayor of the Windy City, Chicago residents lived with some pretty strict gun-control laws – some were state laws, some Cook County laws and others were Chicago city ordinances.
If Obama and Emanuel’s anti-gun rhetoric were true, one would expect Chicago to have a low crime rate involving guns, but the facts show that the opposite is true.
In November 2015, I wrote:
“October 1, I reported:
“‘Well then, let’s take a look at Chicago to see just how wonderfully effective their gun control laws are. According to reports, this past weekend saw 52 people wounded and 4 killed by guns. This marks the second weekend in a row with more than 50 shootings. To date, at least 2,300 people have been shot within the city of Chicago. That’s an increase of around 400 more than during the same period in 2014. The increased shootings have resulted in a 21% increase in the homicide rate over the same period as last year.’”
“A more recent report revealed that to date, there have been 2,703 shootings resulting in 440 deaths in Chicago. That is more deaths by guns than Chicago had for all of 2014 which exceeded the record numbers for 2013. This indicates that even with strict gun laws, shootings and gun related deaths are still increasing.”
A more recent report stated that there were 492 homicides in Chicago for all of 2015. The same report stated that there were 779 homicides in Chicago for all of 2016, an increase of 287 homicides.
The same report also stated that in 2016, Chicago saw 4,385 shootings (fatal and non-fatal). That’s a huge increase over prior years.
To add to this earlier report, it appears the gun violence in Chicago is still increasing compared to last year. According to the Chicago Tribune:
“As of early Monday, at least 228 people had been shot in Chicago so far this year, a 5.5 percent increase from the 216 shot in the same period time last year. There have been at least 42 homicides, up 23.5 percent from the 34 homicides from the same period in 2016.
Last January closed with 50 homicides, the most for that month in the city in at least 16 years, according to police statistics. The year ended with 783 homicides, the most since 1996, according to data collected by the Tribune.
This January has seen several violent weekends. Over the New Year’s weekend, 55 people were shot, five of them fatally. The next weekend saw a sharp drop, two killed and seven wounded. Over the following Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, 39 people were shot, 10 of them fatally.
This past weekend 54 people were shot, six of them fatally. There were seven attacks that wounded three or more people, according to police.”
Simple raw data helps prove what I’ve been saying for years that gun control laws do NOT reduce gun violence and in most cases, results in an increase in gun violence and gun related crimes. Yet you won’t see Obama, Bloomberg, Clinton, Emanuel or other flaming liberals admitting the total failure of strict gun control laws in Chicago. In fact, they continue to insist on making strict gun control laws, like those in Chicago, be enforced nationwide.
If gun control laws are proven not to reduce gun violence, then why are Obama, Clinton, Bloomberg and so many other liberals pushing so hard to get gun control laws enacted? Just look at the history of nations like 1930s Germany that passed a number of strict gun control laws and then used them to go door-to-door disarming the German people. Liberals know that they face a tough time trying to complete their socialization of America with over 300 million guns in the hands of the American people. But take our guns away and it’s a cakewalk for criminals to victimize defenseless American citizens. Gun control laws only keep guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, not criminals and Chicago proves it.
