Within only a few generations, we could all be looking back at the defunct city of Chicago as a cautionary tales against liberalism and gun control.
The Windy City, which enacted an ill-advised and deceptively dangerous handgun ban three decades ago, has been the premiere American city for homicides and gang violence for a vast majority of that same time frame. The old adage stating that once you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns, has never been more true than it is in Chicago today.
Chicago’s murder rate is unfathomable, with the city breaking the 200-homicide mark for 2017 early this week. That equates to over one and a half murders per day for far in 2017.
Now, with Illinois’ capital completely spiraling out of control in terms of law and order, it looks as thought Chicago might soon be evacuated by its saner residents.
Trending: Science is Settled
“Thanks to decades of open borders and unrestrained illegal immigration, gang membership has been absolutely soaring in major cities such as Chicago. Five years ago the Chicago Crime Commission estimated that there were 150,000 gang members living in the metropolitan area, and by this point that number is certainly far higher.
“According to Wikipedia, there are currently only 12,244 police officers in Chicago. That means that the police are outnumbered by at least a 12 to 1 margin.
“If I was living in the Chicago metropolitan area, I would be making every effort to relocate, and apparently there are lots and lots of people that see things the same way that I do.
“In fact, net domestic migration for the Chicago metropolitan area was a staggering -89,000 during 2016…
“In particular, wealthy people are living the city in droves. It has been reported that 3,000 millionaires left the city of Chicago in 2015 alone. Certainly the ridiculously high taxes are one factor why so many wealthy people are leaving, but of course gang violence is also a major reason for the mass exodus.”
With so much of Chicago’s wealth packing up and shipping out, the city will be hard pressed to create room for economic growth – something that would certainly deter young people from taking up with dangerous street gangs in this war zone of a city.
We must remember that Chicago’s vicious and unwarranted gun control laws are doing little to curb violence and murder in this once-classic American city. Instead, these restrictive policies are creating a virtual safety net for the city’s seedy and armed underbelly, who are able to impart their will on law-abiding citizens due to the ban.
As Chicago is left to rot, should we be looking toward New York City or some Californian destination as the next locale ready to descend into violent madness?
