Baltimore Whitewashes Its Civil War History Under Cover of Night

The disgustingly “progressive” city of Baltimore — one of the most dangerous cities in America — has repeatedly engaged in the destruction of its Civil War history in the dead of night to keep the media and the citizens literally in the dark about what the government is doing.

And last weekend it did it again.

Once again we see that members of the Democrat Party don’t care much for democracy as Baltimore’s Democrat Mayor, Catherine Pugh, has repeatedly eliminated Confederate history under cover of night.

This time Pugh destroyed three more Confederate monuments. She then renamed the park for slavery icon Harriet Tubman.

On March 10, Baltimore surprised the city with “Harriet Tubman Day” after eliminating the statues to Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson that sat for decades in Wyman Park Dell. Along with those two statues, a memorial to Supreme Court Justice Roger B. Taney also sat in the Dell. Taney was the man who authored the infamous “Dred Scott Decision,” the pre-Civil War ruling that maintained that slaves would remain designated as property and instead of citizens.

As part of the celebration of “Harriet Tubman Day,” Mayor Pugh officially re-designated the section of the park where the statues once stood to be “Harriet Tubman Grove.”

Granted, Tubman is a very worthy American for us all to remember. She rightfully belongs in the American pantheon of heroes for her thrilling exploits in opposition to America’s “peculiar institution” of slavery.

Harriet Tubman has also often been suggested as a perfect candidate to be included as a new face on U.S. paper currency. Most recently she was touted as the perfect person to serve as a replacement for President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill.

Tubman is a fascinating and inspiring character. Tubman was born a slave but escaped and became one of the nation’s leading abolitionists. She was also an important figure with the famed “Underground Railroad” helping slaves flee the south to life of freedom in the north and even into Canada.

Baltimore Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke told CBS affiliate WJZ that she was encouraged by the renaming of the park.

“It helps bring the community values to important places and helps to weave together the community,” Clarke said. “This place is really interesting. Since the statues were removed, it has become a gathering place.”

Even the purported “friends” of the park loved the whole destruction of Civil War history forced upon the city by Mayor Pugh’s delicate sensibilities.

According to CNN

Friends of Wyman Park Dell, a nonprofit organization that supports the park, wrote a letter to the City Council in October welcoming the renaming.

“This dedication of a grove of trees seems a fitting honor for a great abolitionist and US Army spy who traveled countless miles through Maryland forests,” wrote C. Ryan Patterson, the president of the group’s board of directors.

The proposal also “provides the city an opportunity to correct a historic injustice for a Maryland native. Our city has not yet properly recognized Harriet Tubman, who died in poverty,” Patterson wrote.

But while the liberal members of the Baltimore city government were thrilled with the move, the fact is Mayor Pugh took her action in the middle of the night and without any input from the public. Naturally, Pugh defended her decision.

“I felt the best way to remove the monuments was to remove them overnight,” Pugh told the media on Saturday after the statues were already gone. “I thought that there’s enough grandstanding, enough speeches being made, get it done,” she said, adding that the decision to relocate the monuments “shouldn’t be a debate that’s gripping this city.”

So much for democracy.

The removal of the statues late on Friday and into Saturday morning is not the first time Mayor Pugh employed the dead of night as cover for her campaign to whitewash Baltimore’s Civil War history. Last August the city quietly removed four Confederate statues sitting elsewhere in the city, an action taken without public knowledge or input.

As Breitbart News reported last August:

In a stealth purging of history, the city of Baltimore removed four Confederate statues from city property under cover of night early Tuesday morning.
City crews began the destruction of the monuments just before midnight and finished by 5:30 a.m., the Hill reported.

The city council quietly approved the removal late on Monday in a unanimous vote.

Mayor Pugh also excused her actions as a move for public safety last year, too.

“It’s done,” Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh told the Baltimore Sun. “They needed to come down. My concern is for the safety and security of our people. We moved as quickly as we could.”

“I did not want to endanger people in my own city,” the African American mayor said. “I had begun discussions with contractors and so forth about how long it would take to remove them. I am a responsible person, so we moved as quickly as we could. ”

It is incredible that Mayor Pugh fears Confederate statues more than she does the out of control murder rate actually killing Baltimore residents by the dozens.

Baltimore closed 2017 with its highest murder rate ever suffering “343 killings in 2017, bringing the annual homicide rate to its highest ever – roughly 56 killings per 100,000 people. Baltimore, which has shrunk over decades, currently has about 615,000 inhabitants.”

The horrid rise in the murder rate comes on the heels of two years of city officials undermining the police at every turn, so much so that cops are afraid to do anything that would get them in trouble — or even arrested — just for doing their duty.

As the police step back to avoid getting crosswise with city officials, crime rises along with the murder rate until now the city of Baltimore is one of the most dangerous cities in the nation.

Yet, Mayor Pugh is more concerned with eliminating the city’s Civil War history than she is in stopping a crime spree that is killing her city.
