Are Foreign Diplomats Trashing Donald Trump?

But maybe the story about foreign diplomats trashing Donald Trump is way overblown.

Reuters has reported about foreign diplomats trashing Donald Trump. They don’t call it “trashing,” of course. According to their headline the diplomats are “voicing alarm.”

Foreign diplomats are expressing alarm to U.S. government officials about what they say are inflammatory and insulting public statements by Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, according to senior U.S. officials.

Officials from Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia have complained in recent private conversations, mostly about the xenophobic nature of Trump’s statements, said three U.S. officials, who all declined to be identified.

“As the (Trump) rhetoric has continued, and in some cases amped up, so, too, have concerns by certain leaders around the world,” said one of the officials.

The three officials declined to disclose a full list of countries whose diplomats have complained, but two said they included at least India, South Korea, Japan and Mexico.

It will surprise no one that Mexico or signers of the Trans Pacific Partnership would object to Trump. Many voters worry about what they perceive as an attempt to rig a Democrat majority through the non-enforcement of immigration laws. And many voters were against the TPP.

India, South Korea, Japan, and Mexico don’t decide who becomes President of the United States. We do.

In the end, despite being pretty neutral in the interview, Richard Grenell comes out against Trump’s foreign policy. But I think Patrick Buchanan is more convincing when he writes:

Trump calls the Iraq War many of them championed an historic blunder. Trump says that, while a supporter of Israel, he would be a “neutral” honest broker between Israel and the Palestinians in peace negotiations, as was Jimmy Carter at Camp David.

Trump says he would “get along very well” with Vladimir Putin, as Richard Nixon got along with Leonid Brezhnev and Mao Zedong.

Trump would launch no new crusades for democracy. He would not oppose Russia bombing ISIS. He would build that wall on the border. He would transfer from U.S. taxpayers to rich allies more of the cost of defending themselves.

Do not most Americans agree with much of this?

Indeed, they do! Why are foreign diplomats trashing Donald Trump? Because voters are trashing them by supporting him.
