People still overwhelmingly view Hillary as dishonest and untrustworthy, according to a new poll released Tuesday by NBC News. Only 11% of survey respondents viewed her as honest, compared to 16% for Trump.
Despite such a low opinion of Hillary’s character, Hillary is still leading Trump overall in a head-to-head matchup, 50-41. When third party candidates are considered, Hillary’s lead over Trump falls to six percentage points, 43-37. From NBC News:
“Though Clinton’s lead over Trump remains significant following the convention, a closer look at voter attitudes reveals that many still harbor negative feelings about both candidates. When asked to select all the qualities that describe each candidate including options for honesty, values and temperament, a majority of voters chose ‘none of the above’ to describe both candidates.”
Trending: Science is Settled
The poll follows the release of a letter signed by 50 Republican national security officials, wherein they state that they will not support Donald Trump, because he “lacks the character, values, and experience to be President.”
Trump’s lack of political experience has become a two-edged sword that on one hand contributed greatly to his rise in popularity, but also is being used against him. Democrats echo the same concern about Trump, despite having no problem with the current President’s lack of experience prior to taking office.
When asked about Hillary’s actual accomplishments, supporters are hard-pressed to list any. Hillary’s political experience and supposed credentials stem largely from her last name and large amounts of money. Her position as Secretary of State was merely a concession in exchange for backing Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election. Obama appointed her shortly after he took office.
That’s the way politics is these days: A bunch of “pay-to-play,” “you-scratch-my-back-I’ll-scratch-yours” schemes – which is why someone like Donald Trump rose to prominence. Many voters view him as an outsider. People are sick of the self-serving game of modern politics.
