Last night Rachel Maddow and NBC pulled one of the lamest and most predictable publicity stunts in the liberal media’s recent history.
It all began with a short and tantalizing tweet by Maddow herself in which she claimed to “seriously” have Donald Trump’s tax returns. The brevity of the post is what made it so salacious, however, as Maddow only had access to two pages of a 2005 tax return that contained no incriminating documentation of any kind. In fact, the first 20 minutes of her program were spent explaining to her army of subservient leftists why they believe that a full accounting of Donald Trump’s entire tax portfolio needs to be made available to them.
When her hour long ratings reach was over, all we had learned was that Donald Trump paid a whole lot of taxes in 2005. Nearly $40 million to be exact. Now that Maddow’s stunt is finally in the past, even the most liberal of television personalities is being forced to admit that the release of this information was beneficial to only one person on the planet: President Trump.
“When MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow announced that she would be revealing President Donald Trump’s 2005 tax return Tuesday night, many liberals anticipated the documents would show that Trump isn’t as rich as he says he is, that he paid little to no federal income tax or that his companies have significant business dealings in Russia.
“But none of that came to fruition. In fact, the documents, which consisted of two pages of the full return, revealed only that in 2005 Trump’s income was more than $150 million and that he paid $38 million in federal income taxes. The $38 million was on top of ‘paying tens of millions of dollars in other taxes such as sales and excise taxes and employment taxes,’ according to one White House official.
“Even liberal CNN commentator Van Jones, who previously served as an adviser to former President Barack Obama, admitted the Democrats no longer had a credible case.
“’If all we get tonight,’ Jones said, ‘is that Donald Trump paid $38 million to America’s government, that’s a good night for Trump.'”
The massive flop certainly created a ratings spike for MSNBC for one night, but the fallout from their preposterous fake news fiasco will certainly haunt them for some time. Perhaps someone should read The Boy Who Cried Wolf to Rachel before she tries something like this again.
