Former President Barack Obama had more than his fair share of shortcomings, but one of his most egregious sins was his inability to properly recognize the bravery and sacrifice of America’s police force.
Obama presided over some of the deadliest times in the history of the American police force. Fueled by the Black Lives Matter domestic terror organization, 5 officers were shot and killed by a militant believer in their anti-police rhetoric in Dallas, Texas. Then-President Obama gave us the usual lip service in the days following the tragedy, but did little else to console those affected, or to prevent further violence against the police. Many Americans at the time were demanding that radicalized Black Lives Matter organization be considered a hate group following the incident, and still to this day, but Obama was having none of it.
One simple request of the former President was also ignored: Honoring those brave men and women of Dallas by illuminating the White House in blue – the symbolic color of American police. Obama again ignored the request coldly.
Enter President Donald Trump, whose commitment to the police force of the United States has put his predecessor to shame.
“President Trump announced Monday that he’ll light the White House blue to honor police officers for Monday’s Peace Officer Memorial Day.
“The president signed a proclamation Monday declaring the day ‘Peace Officer Memorial Day’ and the upcoming week ‘Police Week.’ At the signing ceremony, Trump said that he would also request that American flags fly at half-mast to memorialize fallen officers, according to a pool report.
“‘During Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week, we honor the men and women of law enforcement who have been killed or disabled in the course of serving our communities. Police officers are the thin blue line whose sacrifices protect and serve us every day, and we pledge to support them as they risk their lives to safeguard ours,’ Trump said in the text of the proclamation.”
Sure, the gesture is a simple one. Symbolic even. But it’s a gesture that is long overdue. The sacrifice of these brave men and women has often been taken for granted, especially under liberal leaders who are obsessed with the concept of “social justice”, with true, criminal justice often taking a backseat due to felons’ inability to vote for democrats in elections.
Once again, The Donald has proven that his priorities are far removed from the pedantic patterns of his predecessor.
