Europe is once again the backdrop for a horrendous terror attack that left 22 people injured and sparked a massive manhunt in its wake.
The incident occurred during the morning rush hour commute on Friday, with emergency services reporting their first dispatch sometime around 8:2o A.M. local time. The explosion emanated from an improvised explosive device contained within a bucket. Investigators believe that a timer was used, but that the bucket bomb did not fully detonate as planned – a distinction that perhaps saved dozens of lives.
Of those injured, authorities have indicated that at least one of the affected Britons could be in a life-threatening situation at a local hospital.
British leaders chimed in on Twitter:
“’Our city utterly condemns the hideous individuals who attempt to use terror to harm us and destroy our way of life,’ London Mayor Sadiq Khan said in a statement. ‘As London has proven again and again, we will never be intimidated or defeated by terrorism.’
“‘My thoughts are with those injured at Parsons Green and emergency services who are responding bravely to this terrorist incident,’ British Prime Minister Theresa May tweeted.”
Reactions from around the world have begun to trickle in, with U.S. President Donald Trump making a bold statement about the nature of the war on radical Islamic terror shortly after he was notified of the attack.
“President Trump tweeted about the attack, which he said was perpetrated by a ‘loser terrorist.’
“‘Another attack in London by a loser terrorist. These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard. Must be proactive!’ Trump wrote. ‘Loser terrorists must be dealt with in a much tougher manner. The internet is their main recruitment tool which we must cut off & use better!'”
While a suspect has yet to be identified, British authorities are currently conducting an intense manhunt in hopes of capturing the at-large perpetrator.
The attack marks the fifth terror incident in England over the course of 2017, and could be related to the European Union’s ill-advised relaxing of their border security in the wake of the Syrian refugee crisis – a maneuver that put many Britons at odds with the European Union ahead of their recent “Brexit” victory.
