Ten Candidates on the Second Amendment: Idiotic, Incredulous, and Inspirational

In January after his nearly $4 million Hawaii Christmas vacation, Obama is expected to implement more illegal “executive powers” to “tighten” federal gun laws.

Keep in mind, it’s unclear how many federal gun laws already exist. Some report roughly 300, others, nearly 20,000. And, only less than one percent of illegal gun owners are prosecuted under these existing laws. Republican presidential candidate Carli Fiorina asserts, “Before we start calling for more laws I think we ought to consider why we don’t enforce the laws we have.

“Many murders are committed by people who are not supposed to have guns and who have guns we know this it’s a fact and yet these people aren’t prosecuted.”

Regardless, Roll Call reported that, “sources involved in the guns debate say, as one senior House GOP leadership aide put it, ‘something is brewing on guns’.”

In light of this, only a few presidential candidates appear to understand the Second Amendment or gun control and gun violence, and may or may not support Obama’s illegal actions.

For example, Democratic presidential candidate Hilary Clinton remarked after the Oregon shooting:

“We need to close the loopholes and support universal background checks. How many people have to die before we actually act?”

To which Republican presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio responded after the same shooting that, “the laws that many are proposing would have done nothing to prevent these attacks.”

Comic relief aside, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump juxtaposed his take on mass murder with referencing the “Clinton Body Count” and “Arkancide.” He tweeted:

“I was wrong when I said Hillary has killed hundreds of thousands of people. Make it hundreds of thousands and 1. I forgot about Vince Foster.”

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush appeared to be completely confused about the Second and Tenth Amendments when talking to Stephen Colbert, as was Dr. Ben Carson when he explained to Glenn Beck that gun ownership should depend on location and population demographics.

Directly responding to Obama’s expressed intent to illegally pen more executive orders, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) pointed to the facts, stating:

“The truth is that the increasing use of guns in the United States has made our country safer. Though the number of firearms in the U.S. has increased by over 50 percent since 1993, our gun homicide rate has decreased by nearly 50 percent.

“The worst thing we could do for our national security is further trample on our civilians’ Second Amendment rights. Instead, we should be doing the opposite — advocating for more concealed carry ability for law-abiding Americans and an end to unconstitutional gun free zones.”

Trump also declared after the Paris terrorist attacks,

“You can say what you want, but if they had guns — if our people had guns, if they were allowed to carry — it would have been a much, much different situation.

“I hear it all the time, you know. You look at certain cities that have the highest violence, the highest problem with guns and shootings and killings — Chicago is an example, toughest gun laws in the United States, nothing but problems. So our country better get smart because we’re not smart right now.”

Two candidates emphasized what citizens can do in response to illegal actions imposed by Obama.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) emphasizes that the Second Amendment “serves as a fundamental check on government tyranny.

“In fact, the very first Congress not only acted to protect our Second Amendment rights but mandated the militia act; that adult free men must own a musket.”

In other words, the Second Amendment exists to protect citizens’ ability to defend themselves, their families, and their property from a tyrannical government.

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee (R-AK) encourages American gun owners to ignore Obama’s executive orders. He said:

“There should certainly be an absolute, unapologetic — just complete ignoring of such an order by those gun-shop owners, because the president can’t make law. He just can’t. The more that we surrender the Constitution to a president who supposedly taught constitutional law … the more he keeps that going.”

Ironically, Democratic socialist presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders from a state with no gun control, argues, “we have got to bring together the vast majority of the people who do in fact believe in sensible gun safety regulations.”

By sensible, he’s referring to banning criminals and the mentally unstable from owning guns, eliminating a gun show regulation loophole, and ensuring “that weapons designed by the military to kill people are not in the hands of civilians.”

However, sensible and rational people already understand that criminals are already banned from owning guns. Criminals were allegedly the primary reason why gun laws were implementing in the first place. Sensible people already know that no law will ever prevent or change criminal behavior because the very definition of committing a crime involves a person knowingly ignoring, circumventing, and violating existing laws. Laws exist to restrain evil, to protect the innocent, and punish violators.

The Executive Branch cannot make even one law and existing federal gun laws already violate the Second Amendment. In order for Americans to have any confidence in their constitutional republic, the Second Amendment must be protected from people like Obama who seek to destroy it altogether.
