In the months since her father’s election Ivanka Trump has faced more scrutiny and more backlash than any other presidential offspring in recent memory. Social media has been a haven of negativity with Tweets and Facebook posts decrying Trump’s eldest daughter, and major companies separating themselves from her in high-profile fashion… and yet, Ivanka’s businesses have persevered. Even more surprising than the company’s good health is the fact that they’ve done it even as Ivanka has been forced to move away from her role with the company she founded.

Recently Refinery29 sat down with the company’s new president,  Abigail Klem, to talk about how life for the company has changed in the months since the election. Klem, a registered Democrat, seemed shocked at the negativity that has come her way from the unforgiving left.

“It’s unprecedented what this brand is dealing with. We are really committed to having the brand be separate, even from [Ivanka], so certainly her dad is even more distant from that. We’re committed to doing everything we can to carve an identity for this brand that is about what the brand stands for and the core brand attributes. And so absolutely, it complicated matters.”

In February, some of the most important retailers carrying the Ivanka Trump line very publicly announced that they would no longer be doing business with Ivanka’s company; Nordstrom said they were dropping the line due to “poor sales,” Neiman Marcus cut ties with the company’s jewelry line, and discount retailers TJ Maxx and Marshall’s suddenly decided to throw away all of their Ivanka Trump displays and move her products to less conspicuous parts of their stores. (Belk, Jet, ShopStyle, and the Home Shopping Network all decided to dump the Trump label in February as well.) The obviously political actions of these companies prompted a media firestorm that led White House advisor Kellyanne Conway into some troubled waters when she seemed to lobby for Ivanka Trump’s product lines in her capacity as a government official. During an interview on Fox and Friends Conway encouraged the show’s viewers to go out and purchase some Ivanka Trump products, to show solidarity with the President and his family. The comment was obviously offhand and meant as a show of support for Ivanka Trump but the media and the Democrat Party used the slip to drive anti-Trump press for several days.

Even with all of the negative media coverage and the cowardly actions of several politically motivated companies, Klem says that her company has never seen better sales.

“Since the beginning of February, they were some of the best performing weeks in the history of the brand. For several different retailers Ivanka Trump was a top performer online, and in some of the categories it was the [brand’s] best performance ever.”

While the company chose not to share their sales numbers with Refinery29 the ecommerce aggregator Lyst told the website that from January to February “Ivanka Trump sales increased 346%. If you compare February 2017 to the average orders in 2016, the brand sales increased 557%. Put another way: The Ivanka Trump brand was ranked as no. 11 in sales for the month of February, a jump all the way up from no. 550 in January. “Ivanka Trump brand has never ranked in as a top seller on our site,” says Lyst’s U.S. public relations director Sarah Tanner. “To see such an extreme spike in one month is completely unheard of and came as a huge surprise to us.”‘

While much of the noise in recent months has come from the left and we’ve seen liberals in the streets of some of our major cities; marching, protesting, and even rioting… another group has also taken to the streets to demonstrate how they feel. Quietly, across the nation, conservative Americans have turned out to support the President and his family in more productive ways than any that the left has considered. They’ve used their money to support Ivanka, and they’ve used their energies at work and at home to support their President.

The left can continue to hate and rage, we on the right will do what we have always done – we’ll live productive lives, work hard, enjoy our families, and continue living the American Dream… just as Ivanka Trump seems to be doing.
