When Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi tried to sell the American public on the Patient Protections and Affordable Care Act, also known as the Affordable Care Act or just Obamacare, they promised over and over that it would make healthcare more affordable and accessible. Millions more Americans would be able to afford healthcare. They would have access to more doctors and specialists. Life would be terrific, etc.
So just how great has Obamacare been? Has it really made healthcare more affordable or given us access to more doctors and specialist?
One of the latest reports might bring the success of Obamacare into question.
Most Obamacare exchanges, federal and state, offer 4 levels of healthcare with bronze being the cheapest with less coverage, to silver, gold and platinum being the most expensive with the most coverage.
Many Virginia residents with bronze level healthcare plans are finding out that their current coverage will be dropped in 2017. Group Hospitalization and Medical Services, a subsidiary of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, says that in this year’s open enrollment, 60% signed up for silver plans and only 23% signed up for bronze plans.
No, they won’t lose their coverage, rather they will be automatically upgraded to silver plans, which obviously cost more. I can’t help but think that the reason most of that 23% only purchased bronze plans did so because they couldn’t afford the silver plans. If that’s true, then how many of them will end up dropping their healthcare coverage because they can’t afford to pay the premiums for a silver plan?
This one report alone is not enough to judge the success or failure of Obamacare. But when you add that to the list below, it should be more than obvious that Obamacare has been a dismal failure at every level, turn or aspect.
