President Trump says Democrats Invented Russia Story to Distract from Election Loss

As it becomes clear that our intelligence agencies have no reason to believe that the Trump campaign team had any connection with the government of Russia, President Trump has grown bolder in his gloating of his innocence.

While President Trump has consistently proclaimed his own innocence, now that he seems likely to be cleared of any suspicion he’s ratcheted up his Twitter commentary on the Russia issue. The President went so far as to argue that the Democrats “made up” the story of a Russia-Trump connection to distract the media (and the nation) from the fact that they’d just suffered another massive electoral defeat.

Early Monday morning he began tweeting that he’d been cleared by our intelligence leaders, that the story was “Fake News,” and that the Democrats had invented the story as an excuse for the Democrat failures.

“James Clapper and others stated that there is no evidence Potus colluded with Russia. This story is FAKE NEWS and everyone knows it!”

“The Democrats made up and pushed the Russian story as an excuse for running a terrible campaign. Big advantage in Electoral College & lost!”

“The real story that Congress, the FBI and all others should be looking into is the leaking of Classified information. Must find leaker now!”

“Just heard Fake News CNN is doing polls again despite the fact that their election polls were a WAY OFF disaster. Much higher ratings at Fox.”

“What about all of the contact with the Clinton campaign and the Russians? Also, is it true that the DNC would not let the FBI in to look?”

If you were hoping that President Trump would pull back on all of his Tweeting, particularly the kind of tweeting that causes controversy, I think we can safely say that isn’t going to happen. Twitter is a tool that the President believes effectively helps him get his message out and it seems that he will continue to use the format freely.
