Over the last several years federal, state, and local government edicts are aggressively dismantling biological and familial norms through “sex education.”
In 2013, for example, the U.S. Department of Education ended using “mother” and “father” to identify student’s legal parents on federal student aid forms (Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)). Instead, the form classifies, “Parent 1” and “Parent 2.”
The Department stated the new form “more accurately and fairly assess students’ need for aid;” and “Gender-specific terms fail to capture income and other information from one parent when a student’s parents are in a same-sex marriage under state law but not federally recognized under the Defense of Marriage Act.”
Likewise, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said, “All students should be able to apply for federal student aid within a system that incorporates their unique family dynamics…. [that] provide[s] an inclusive form that reflects the diversity of American families.” (emphasis added.)
Yet the Department’s advocacy for gender neutrality ignores data evidencing that less than 3 percent of the population identifies as LGBTQ; and transgender, less than one percent.
This year parents in Virginia overwhelmingly protested against the Fairfax County School Board’s May ruling and announcement that its schools would teach “sexual fluidity” to students beginning in the Fall 2015 school semester.
The new Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum for 7th-12th grade students emphasizes that boys are not boys and girls are not girls.
At the same time, in May, the Board voted to expand its “Non-Discrimination Policy 1450” to include “Gender Identity” as a “protected group.” According to Jim Ruland of the Fairfax County Taxpayers Alliance (www.fcta.org), “the Board made no effort to engage parents or advise the public what this means for student or employee safety, respect of privacy, parental rights or the right to a distraction-free, education-centered environment.”
Included in the enforcement of gender neutral bathrooms for students, such as “she-males,” who might be exploring his/her sexual identity. Boys identifying as girls must now be allowed to use girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms and vice versa.
School District documents state that gender is not determined by biology or anatomy but by a child’s choice. What remains unclear is whether or not protections have been put in place to protect minors from sexual assault, abuse, violence, or to prevent the emotional and mental angst resulting from bullying by teachers and peers for the tweens and/or teenagers who choose not to comply with the Board’s policies.
The Board’s curriculum directives include:
- Grade 7: Teach sexual orientation terminology including heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality; and gender identity related to transgender, as “normal.”
- Grade 8: Sexuality is introduced as “broad spectrum” that can constantly change. A person’s identity is comprised of more than biological gender (what one is born as (male/female)) but also includes gender identity, including transgender, gender roles, and sexual orientation (includes heterosexual, bisexual, and homosexual), which hinge on one’s perception and choice.
- Grade 9: Children are taught “tolerance and nondiscrimination” of these sexual categories.
- Grade 10: Expand on the concept of “Sexual Fluidity,” which emphasizes that anyone can choose to be a boy/girl because sexual preference is boundless. One’s sexuality develops and changes over a lifetime. Students must appreciate individual differences of sexual orientation and gender identity choices made by others.
Unelected and taxpayer funded public school bureaucrats ignored overwhelming parental opposition and implemented the new curriculum, despite Superintendent of Schools Karen Gaza claim that parents “have the final say.” In a statement to the Fairfax County community, Gaza noted: parents can opt out their child from the sexual orientation and gender identity classes.
