One Christian’s View on Illegal Immigration

Immigration laws have been around since 1790. So pretty much the Declaration of Independence was a teenager when folks decided there were just some people they didn’t want to be citizens.

If you want to see the full list of laws, you can find them here.

In the 1880s there was a bronze lady, a gift from France, installed in an American harbor. There is a museum at her base holding a plaque that says

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” Emma Lazarus

Most people know the 1st two lines by heart. Perhaps it is time to read the 3rd and 4th more carefully. Now, I have argued ardently that people who wish to immigrate here should do so according to our laws. I have been a law abiding citizen my entire life. However, our Supreme Court has become a complete farce. They make a mockery of the men who fought to make this country free. They “interpret” laws to fit their agenda and subsequently do something they were never meant to do — MAKE LAWS!!!!

Laws that fly in the face of every moral being.

This has put me into a state of unease and full of questions. When I get that way I turn to God’s Word to see where it leads me.

“When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong.
You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you,
and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt:
I am the Lord your God.”

BUT that’s the OLD Testament you say.

Okay how about this:
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me,” Matthew 25:35. It’s written in RED.

It is our fear and our longing for self-preservation that has brought us here. Our lack of faith and our worry about financial well-being that makes us want to build a wall against people who mainly want better for themselves. We have put out the “NO Vacancy” sign.

Do I believe there are people who wish to come here only to harm Americans? Yes, I do. I also believe there were people who were born here with that same desire. The only TRUE protection we have against evil is God’s Grace, and as long as we do not welcome him and fight to remove him from our land, we will continue to tremble and not do HIS will.

But take heart; after November nobody may want to live here.
