Islam is Part of American History – Just Not the Way Obama Pretends

The burning of the USS Philadelphia off the coast of Tripoli during the First Barbary War by Edward Moran.

In the wake of a weekend of attacks by Muslim individuals, President Barack Obama and Democrat Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton continue to claim they had nothing to do with Islam. They repeat their tired mantra that Islam is a part of America’s formation. As Obama stated last year, it is “woven into the fabric of our country since its founding.”

To be fair, Obama is partially correct. Islam is deeply entwined in the tapestry of America. It had significant affects on the development of this country. But as Progressives always do when re-writing our history, they purposely leave out the most important, interesting, and factual details.

For 600 years before Europe began enslaving Africans, Muslims had been perfecting the art of slave trading. When Britain started settling colonies in the early 1600’s, their workforce was populated by white indentured servants, primarily from Ireland. It was Muslims who introduced the capture and sale of Africans to Britain and Spain.

Muslims taught the Europeans how to conquer Africans and take them as slaves. They believed the Qur’an justified enslaving infidels. The white man also learned from the Arabs how to use African tribes to capture other natives. Fortunately, Europeans did not adopt the Muslim tradition of castrating the males and making the women concubines.

It was this Islamic-based slave trade that Europeans brought to America. It is important to note that while Christians spearheaded the abolition movement in the New World, Africans taken to Arab counties found no such resistance to their enslavement.

Islam was responsible for our America’s first foreign war. In addition, it prompted the creation of the Department of the Navy and the Marine Corp.

Even before the dust had settled from the Revolutionary War, Muslims in the Middle East were terrorizing Western Christian nations with piracy. They would torture and enslave their captives, defending their actions with the Qur’an. Since the military was disbanded after the war, America did not have a national defense at the time. The United States, still under the Articles of Confederation with no central government, had no choice but to pay the pirate’s extortion bribes.

A year before the Constitution was written, Jefferson and John Adams learned the following from the Ambassador of Tripoli:  The Ambassador answered us that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman [Muslim] who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

George Washington’s reply to the Ambassador’s statement was, “Would to heaven we had a Navy able to reform those enemies of mankind (Muslims), or crush them into non-existence.”

Once George Washington became president, he was forced to continue paying protection money to the Muslim Barbary pirates. By the end of his Presidency, 16% of the United States Federal Budget was earmarked for the Barbary States. For all the extortion money spent, it still did not prevent raids and captures, which required even more funds for the prisoners’ release.

In 1796, Washington finally called for Congress to form the Navy.   President Adams was able to bring that request to reality two years later.

By the time Jefferson took office, America was in major debt, partially due to the Barbary extortion money. Over the years, he, along with Adams and Benjamin Franklin, had negotiated several treaties in efforts to keep peace.  They did not work. Jefferson walked into office with the burden of American soldiers having just been captured, tortured and enslaved in Tripoli by Barbary Pirates.

Realizing the protection money was wasted funds, he ordered the termination of all bribery payments. Tripoli declared war on America on May 10, 1801, just six days after Jefferson took office. Thus began the first American foreign war.

Since Jefferson’s decree, the United States has refused to negotiate with terrorists. That is until Obama paid Iran for the release of prisoners earlier this year. He has singlehandedly returned us to the days of George Washington and the Barbary Pirates. Obama has progressed us right back to 1776.

Progressives claim that Jefferson supported Islam, had his own Qur’an and encouraged people to read it as well. They get 2 out of 3 technically correct, but they are completely, and likely purposely, inaccurate on the reasoning behind his actions. One they get outright wrong.

Jefferson abhorred Islam. Any claims to the contrary are outright false. Jefferson did obtain his own Qur’an, but for the strict purpose of educating himself regarding their extreme barbaric behavior. He also did encourage citizens to read it as well. Jefferson refused to coddle the people or hide the truth from them. He wanted them to fully recognize who their enemy was. This is supported by a quote he wrote in his own copy: “If you read this book, you will have nothing but contempt for Islamic law.”

America’s Marines went to Tripoli and decimated the Muslim terrorists in the First Barbary War.  It is here they earned the nickname, “Leatherneck.” The Islamic pirates were known for chopping off their enemy’s head. Marines wore a leather strap around their neck to prevent their beheading. Marines respond to this nickname even today. The event was so significant it is woven into the Marine Hymn with the line, “To the Shores of Tripoli.”

So yes, Islam did have a lot to do with the fabric that wove this country together. And their threads are still plaguing us today.

The Arab Slave Trade was instrumental in the enslavement of Africans. The racism that resulted from slavery is still dividing America, and even more so after eight years of Obama’s poisonous rhetoric.

Islamists have been terrorizing and torturing Americans from our inception and we have been militarily fighting the extremist religion since Jefferson. ISIS and its soldiers continue their barbaric terroristic behavior throughout Christian lands today. It was no coincidence ISIS killed 21 Coptic Christians on the Tripoli shores in February 2015. The Barbary Wars continue and Obama went golfing.

Islam is in the fabric of our flag’s red stripes, representing the blood so many of our precious men and women have shed because of their extreme, fanatic religion. It is the same blood that covers the hands of Obama and Hillary.

While our founders were discussing and establishing the Constitution, trying to find some sort of compromise between slave and free states, Islam was there. When President Washington put the brand new country into debt because of bribery money, Islam was there. As the Marines stormed the Shores of Tripoli, Islam was there.

So, one can argue Obama is right. And because of his and Hillary’s willful ignorance of that entanglement, America is in very grave danger.

But that’s just my 2 cents.
