I have long stopped believing in the idea of neutrality. It is hard for us to accept that there is no such thing as real fairness. Men and women take sides, and we lean in one direction or another. The most we can hope for is even-handedness, but even that is a rare commodity in our polarizing society.
None of us should have expected the Liberal, Lester Holt to be impartial either. Who would have believed that the pro-Democrat would have been anything but easy on Hillary, but there was a lot that he just did not do. It was to the point many are saying that he failed to moderate.
Holt reminded viewers he’s liberal – from pushing the birther issue to harassing Trump about his tax returns to a wildly biased question about Clinton as “the first woman nominated by a party” not having “the look.” Clinton skated by with a 15-second response on her emails while Trump was asked repeated follow-up questions while Hillary was not. There was no “deplorables” question and Holt promoted the birther meme without noting its origin in the Clinton camp.
But more than these things, there are the things Lester did not even touch on. Things like Benghazi. Why when the topic of ISIS came up, did Lester not ask about the rumors and investigations?
What about the emails? When Trump explained the issue with his tax return, Holt ran him through the ringer and tried to correct him concerning releasing a return while being audited. But when Clinton said she had been fighting ISIS for years, Holt never said a word about her inability to protect our diplomat.
What about the Clinton Foundation and the “Pay to Play” donations? When they spoke of finances, her improprieties were never mentioned.
I am not a fan of either candidate, but this was the worst moderated debate I have seen.
