Hillary Clinton was thoroughly embarrassed late last year, as Donald Trump and the republicans pulled the rug out from underneath her on election night.
The former First Lady built her entire campaign around her own arrogance of inevitability, and the fact that she was a woman. Seeing Barack Obama’s victory as the first black President, the Clinton campaign believed that they were an absolute lock for the White House based solely on the novelty of Hillary’s gender.
Then, everything came crashing down for the career politician. Not only did her liberal base abandon her after taking a good, hard look at Obama’s shabby legacy, Clinton was forced to contend with Wikileaks releasing a treasure trove of damning information from her campaign and career.
Heartbreak struck Clinton in the wee morning hours of November 9th, 2016, as it became obvious that Donald Trump would soon become the 45th President of the United States. Clinton was a mess. Stories emerged from campaign headquarters that revealed an ugly, drunken altercation between her and her campaign manager John Podesta, who Hillary forced to address her stunned crowd of supporters while the former Secretary of State wallowed in her suffering backstage.
It wasn’t until the next day that Clinton officially conceded the election that she so thoroughly believed was hers for the taking. As it turns out, she had some help in making that decision as well.
“The presidential election of 2016 shocked the world, but no one was more shocked than Hillary Clinton. A new book on the Clinton campaign contains the revelation that Clinton had to be pressured into conceding her loss on election night by President Barack Obama.
“’POTUS doesn’t think it’s wise to drag this out,’ White House political director David Simas is reported as saying to Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager.
“The campaign did not concede at that point.
“Later, President Obama himself called and told Clinton, ‘You need to concede.’ The president then repeated the demand to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta shortly thereafter.”
Clinton has made quite the name for herself as one of the sorest losers in the history of American politics with her actions, and inaction, directly following the 2016 election’s conclusion. Not only was she embarrassingly late to concede to Donald Trump, her collusion with the DNC to handcuff rival Bernie Sanders was now confirmed – a devastating blow to the already broken democratic party.
Clinton spent the next several weeks holed up at her home in Chataqua, New York, venturing out rarely with no makeup and in frumpy workout clothes; a far cry from the $12,000 pantsuits she was accustomed to on the campaign trail.
