In a campaign speech before Planned Parenthood, Hillary Clinton called for ending the “epidemic of gun violence that is stalking our country.” While she didn’t mention the 324,999 people who were murdered by abortion at Planned Parenthood clinics around the country last fiscal year, she did bring up the “33,000 Americans…killed every year” by gun violence.
In her speech, she said, “No parent should live in fear that their child will be hurt or killed by gun violence.”
“I’ve met so many mothers on this campaign who have lost their own children. We owe it to them to protect our kids, no matter what zip code they live in,” she said, eliciting applause from the audience.
Regarding the 33,000 figure that Hillary Clinton and other Democrats routinely throw around as the number of Americans killed by gun violence every year, most of those are actually suicide. A small number are accidental deaths, and about a third of them are murders committed with firearms.
For example, in 2013, there were a total of 32,888 deaths related to firearms. Of those, 505 were accidental, and 11,208 were actual murders – actually that figure also includes self-defense killings, or “justifiable homicides.” The remaining 21,175 were suicides.
If she wants to talk about an “epidemic,” abortion would be a lot more apropos than “gun violence.” The Guttmacher Institute estimates that some 53 million people have been murdered in the United States by abortion since 1973. Not only that, but undercover videos showed that the abortion industry has no qualms about selling baby parts to the biomedical industry.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), none of the top ten causes of death in this country have to do with “gun violence.” The top cause of death is heart disease, which claimed 614,348 lives in 2014 – far more than the 11,000 murders committed with guns, and only twice the number of those killed by abortion.
