We can all make mistakes in judging a situation. Mistakes are particularly common if it is a situation that we have never faced before. How many times does a mayor face protests or riots in their city? Not very many I am sure.
But, with all the violent protests that have turned into full blown riots, we have a hard time making excuses. We have seen protests go from peaceful to a free-for-all in a matter of minutes. So, now that we have seen this begun to happen in Charlotte, we have to ask; did officials do all that was necessary?
According to our first reports, the answer is no.
Charlotte’s Democratic mayor Jennifer Roberts decided against accepting an offer made by North Carolina’s GOP governor Pat McCrory for additional state law enforcement resources long before the situation spiraled out control on Wednesday night, Breitbart News has learned.
Multiple sources have confirmed to Breitbart News—as well as other media—that Governor McCrory had offered Roberts state law enforcement resources that could have protected the city of Charlotte as early as 7 a.m. on Wednesday, but she didn’t take the offer.
Why would she not take advantage of these extra resources? Even if the additional officers were not needed, it would have ensured the safety of the protesters as well as the police. Instead, she thought things had died down. She thought that it was over. But as she and several businesses discovered, that was anything but a correct assessment.
It was also reported that she never asked for help. Even as the riot grew to the point of being out of control, she never decided they needed help. The Chief of Police Putney had to make the call.
What could have been different had she not hesitated?
