ACLU Attempts to Play War, Suing Trump Over Military Trans Ban

There seems to be consensus among the American political left that the most powerful military in the history of the world doesn’t know what they’re doing.

Weeks ago, President Donald Trump and military leaders in the United States spent a great deal of time and energy reviewing our nation’s policy regarding transgender service members.  The subject is certainly a controversial one, with a great deal of nuance that must be examined in regard to economic impact, effectiveness, training, and, most importantly, the functionality of our fighting forces when they are embroiled in conflict.

At the behest of the United States’ most important and intelligent military minds, President Trump has banned the recruitment and service of transgendered Americans in our armed forces.

While the military minds in charge of this decision are unequivocally the correct people to be correcting the previous policy, that hasn’t stopped the left from immediately lambasting the President in a knee-jerk reaction.  You see, the left has been exploiting transgendered Americans for political gain over the course of the last year, creating a bit of a trendy pet project for themselves.

Now, almost predictably, the ACLU is jumping into the fray, pretending that they are somehow more equipped and qualified to make decision about the makeup of our armed forces than those doing the fighting.

“The 39-page complaint, filed by the ACLU’s Maryland Chapter on behalf of six military service members in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, is embedded with Trump’s tweets and claims the ban not only violates the Fifth Amendment but is invalid on its face.

“‘The Trump administration has provided no evidence that this announcement was based on any analysis of the actual cost and disruption allegedly caused by allowing men and women who are transgender to serve openly,’ the group wrote.

“’News reports indicate the Secretary of Defense and other military officials were surprised by President Trump’s announcement, and that his actual motivations were purely political, reflecting a desire to accommodate legislators and advisers who bear animus and moral disproval toward men and women who are transgender, with a goal of gaining votes for a spending bill that included money to build a border wall with Mexico.’

“LGBT rights groups Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN also announced on Monday morning that they had filed a lawsuit against Trump over the transgender military ban.”

The absurdity of the ACLU’s assertion is akin to asking an Olympic curling announcer to coach the New York Yankees in game 7 of the World Series.

It is literally impossible for the ACLU to have more accurate information on the effectiveness of transgendered soldiers than our military does.  By interjecting themselves into the equation, the ACLU is attempting to put American service men and women in increased danger by undermining the authority of the military leaders.

While the ACLU does, at times, do wonderful work on certain societal and free speech issues, their authority ends where the American military begins.

Lawyers don’t fight wars.
